The worse the economy gets, the more folks seem to scramble to get their resume out there. The result: Vanilla Resumes. The unfortunate part is that most companies are looking for that which differentiates the job seeker. As you point out, it's the "story" of this person's background and clarity around where they want to end up—the future story. In an effort to "make my resume open to more opportunities" job seekers end up diluting and over-generalizing their stories of what has happened and what will be. One thought that came to mind while reading your post is that, the more generic your story is the more difficult it is for that message to resonate through the people in our networks who connect us with opportunities—if you don’t have a compelling “story” your network of recruiters, colleagues and professional friends can’t do much for you! Look forward to more posts like this. Br, Promise Phelon
